NYS DEC is looking for volunteers for the WAVE (Water Assessment by Volunteer Evaluators) Program and is holding a training on June 11, 2015 in Salamanca

Stream aides sought

Water quality improvements have led to better habitat for aquatic life and wildlife dependent on the state's water bodies.

Checking on the status of waters calls for many monitors to gather information on how and where things flow and go. The Department of Environmental Conservation is conducting a WAVE (Water Assessment by Volunteer Evaluators) Program this summer and is seeking interested volunteers to assist in this effort.

Training sessions will be offered to those willing to serve as citizen monitors, coaching and coordinating their own team or those who would like to help as WAVE participants. Sessions rotate throughout 17 major drainage basins. In Western New York two sessions are scheduled: Jamestown in Chautauqua County, May 28, and Salamanca in Cattaraugus County, June 11.
