Workshop on Travel Writing at Olean Library
Carys Evans-Corrales will present a workshop on travel writing Saturday beginning at 11a.m. on January 25th, 2014. The workshop will cover both basic and little-known aspects of this particular genre, and Evans-Corrales will also share some of her own experiences about living and writing in Spain, Malaysia, Singapore, Jamaica and the United Kingdom. She is fluent in several languages and currently teaches Spanish at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Evans-Corrales has recently published a book of translations of poetry by the Galician writer Pilar Pallares. A memoir about learning a new language to identify more closely with each place where she hung her hat will be out in the spring. Titled "Talking Girl,"the memoir also describes how each language she learned resonated with a different part of her personality. Two of her translations are currently on line at the Buenos Aires Review.
There is no registration for the program, which is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts and the Olean Public Library. A light lunch will be served.
