Blood Drive in Machias
Wednesday, July 14th at the Pines Nursing Home, located at 9822 Route 16 in Machias. The blood drive is open to the public and will be held from 11am - 4pm.
American Red Cross Blood Services has partnered with Friendly's Restaurants to provide a coupon for a free carton of ice cream to all presenting blood donors this July. The summer months are typically a time when blood donations drop due to travel, planned activities, and the absence of high school and college blood drives. This makes maintaining blood supplies even more challenging. Friendly's hopes their ice cream will make giving the gift of life jus a little bit sweeter. Coupons are redeemable at participating Friendly's Restaurants only and coupons expire on August 31, 2010.
Blood donors must have picture ID, be at least 17 years of age (or 16 years old with a signed American Red Cross Parental Permission Slip), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health the day of the blood drive. Donors are encouraged to eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. Appointments are not necessary, but can be scheduled by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by logging onto RedCrossBlood.org. Walk-ins are welcome!
